What is the Light Adjustable Lens?

The LAL is a revolutionary lens implant that works in harmony with ultraviolet light treatments to give you the sharpest vision possible. Once the lens is in place, you have the ability to adjust your vision with a series of light treatments over several weeks. This means your vision can be tailored to meet your specific lifestyle needs, whether that’s reading, driving, or enjoying outdoor activities.

“My experience from start to finish with Dr Sura and his staff was amazing (...) I’m SO happy with my light adjustable lenses. I cannot believe I no longer have to wear contacts or glasses! I highly recommend Suravision!”

How Does the Light Adjustable Lens Work?

The Light Adjustable Lens is implanted during cataract surgery, just like a traditional intraocular lens (IOL). However, the real magic happens after surgery. Using a special light treatment, your doctor can adjust your vision to suit your unique needs.

This is particularly beneficial for those who want the freedom to improve both near and distance vision. Once you’re satisfied with your vision, a final treatment locks in the adjustments, providing lasting results.

Your Vision Journey With LAL

The process begins with a simple consultation. During this time, Dr. Sura will evaluate your eye health and discuss how the LAL can improve your vision. After your cataract surgery, the Light Adjustable Lens is implanted, and a series of painless UV light sessions are scheduled to gradually adjust the lens to its perfect setting.

No Guesswork, Just Results

What makes the LAL special is that you don’t have to guess what your post-surgery vision will be. You’ll experience it firsthand and have the opportunity to adjust until it feels just right.

The Light Adjustable Lens compared with standard and premium lenses

A standard monofocal lens sets one fixed focus and cannot be changed after surgery. Premium multifocal and extended-depth lenses offer more range but still commit you to a fixed design chosen from measurements taken before surgery. The Light Adjustable Lens is different because the prescription is refined after your eye has healed, based on how you actually see rather than preoperative estimates alone. It is not the right lens for everyone, and it asks more of you in follow-up visits, which is exactly what Dr. Sura reviews with you at your consultation.

Cost and insurance

The Light Adjustable Lens is a premium option chosen at the time of cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange. Insurance covers the standard cataract procedure, but it does not cover the Light Adjustable Lens upgrade, which is an out-of-pocket cost. We believe in transparency, so you receive the full price in writing at your consultation, with no surprises, and we offer interest-free financing to help.

Why patients choose SuraVision for the Light Adjustable Lens

Dr. Sura was an early adopter of the Light Adjustable Lens and among the earlier surgeons in the Houston area to offer it. He has cared for many patients treated with the lens, including patients who took part in its clinical trials. You work directly with Dr. Sura from your first measurements through every light adjustment, with transparent pricing and honest guidance on whether this lens fits your eyes. Light Adjustable Lens questions? We have the answers.

What is the Light Adjustable Lens?

It is an FDA-approved intraocular lens from RxSight, implanted during cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange, that can be adjusted with light treatments after surgery to refine your vision.

How are the adjustments done?

After your eye heals, you return for short, painless in-office treatments with the RxSight Light Delivery Device, which uses ultraviolet light to reshape the lens and fine-tune your focus.

How many adjustment visits will I need?

Most patients complete about three to four short visits over a few weeks, then a final treatment locks the prescription in.

Do I have to wear special glasses?

Yes. Because the lens is light-sensitive until it is locked in, you wear the UV-protective glasses we provide during the adjustment period, and we explain exactly when you can stop.

Is the Light Adjustable Lens covered by insurance?

Insurance covers the standard cataract procedure, but the Light Adjustable Lens is a premium upgrade that is not covered. We provide clear pricing in writing at your consultation and offer interest-free financing.

Am I a good candidate?

Many people are, especially those wanting a precise result, those with prior LASIK or PRK, or those with astigmatism. The only way to know is a consultation, where Dr. Sura reviews your eyes and recommends the best lens for you. Call 713-730-2020.
